I try to mix up my Facebook posts and Tweets with a bit of useless jabber, self-promotion, and sharing/forwarding interesting tidbits. I’ve built some relationships with folks in my twitter stream that would not have occurred had we not put some jibberish out there that somehow gave us a connecting point. I feel that sharing some of this brings a level of transparency that can enhance your business. I tend to pay attention to and respond to folks who share personal and educational type information. I skim over and usually ignore those who fall on one end of the spectrum or the other.

In my experience, I think the stats you reported are pretty accurate. I don’t post that many conversational or “useless” tweets during the day, and I try not to do so on FaceBook either. Lately I have been posting a lot of interesting quotes and personal revelations, and that’s about it. Less often I post info about my upcoming events or speaking engagements. I pretty much only have friends and colleagues on FB, whereas I use Twitter more to establish my brand and bring new readers to my blog.
